Celebration
In recent years, the hermitage keepers of Sant Joan have revitalized this tradition, giving it new energy. On the eve of the festival, the Flama del Canigó, a Catalan tradition linked to the summer solstice, arrives at the chapel to illuminate the shortest night of the year and keep the festival’s symbolism alive. The day begins with a solemn mass, followed by a performance by Montblanc’s Ball de Bastons and the traditional changing of the senyera, the Catalan flag, at the chapel’s viewpoint. At the same time, the Club Atlètic Montblanc organizes an uphill race and a walking route to the chapel.
