Origin
Christmas celebrations in Montblanc are enjoyed with family, as streets and squares light up and fill with the sounds of Christmas carols. Nativity scenes and the tió bring excitement to the little ones. For years, the Club Excursionista Montblanc has placed a nativity scene at the chapel of Sant Joan during a nighttime hike, a tradition also followed by the hermitage caretakers of Sant Joan in the morning.
On December 28th, the Feast of the Holy Innocents, children used to play pranks by sticking paper cutouts on people’s backs, a tradition that has fallen into disuse. On December 31st, the Home dels Nassos (Man of the Noses) roams the streets and squares, accompanied by music and handing out sweets to children. In the afternoon, the Club Atlètic organizes the popular Sant Silvestre race.
On the night of the Three Wise Men, the parade used to feature trumpeters, an angel, and the Three Kings with their entourage, who would then deliver toys to homes, a tradition that has recently been revived.
