Origin
In the past, the dance of ‘sardanes’ had a great importance in Montblanc, it began with the sound of a piano (1903) but a little later it was substituted by the ‘cobla’ (brass band) (1907). During the ‘Franco’ regime the ‘sardana’ remained as a ‘regional dance’. Later on, in the fifties, the Catalan nationalist effort of ‘Casal Montblanquí’ (a cultural association) gathered the traditional cultural signs. It was not until 1962 when it was created the ‘Grup Sardanista’ as a section of the local Museum.
