Everything ready for Terrània, the 21st International Ceramics Festival of Montblanc
24/09/2024
Terrània, the International Ceramics Festival of Montblanc, organized by the Montblanc Town Council through the Tourist Office, will reach its twenty-first edition this weekend.
Visitors will quickly notice one of the most anticipated novelties: the exhibition furniture and the layout of the space occupied by the ceramists inside the old church of Sant Francesc have been replaced.
This initiative coincides with the distinction received this year of the National Crafts Award in the Prestigia category, which adds to the Honorary Award of the Association of Ceramists of Catalonia in the Crafts of Catalonia category, received in 2018.
As is customary in recent editions, the festival will begin with activities for schools, coordinated by the Museu del Pessebre de Catalunya. From 5:00 p.m., the central exhibition and sales area will be open to the public, and at 7:30 p.m. the official inauguration will take place.
This year, 26 ceramists will participate, five of whom are from Belgium, the guest country, taking over from Slovenia. The international projection of the festival has been present since the first edition, and since 2015 it has been strengthened with this initiative, which has been very well received and has therefore continued.
The En blanc i negre exhibition by Montblanc ceramist Ramon Fort, to whom this year’s festival poster is dedicated, stands out. The exhibition has been on display at Sala Sant Miquel since September 6th, and the festival coincides with the last days of the exhibition.
The other exhibitions that make up this year’s program are:
At the Museu Comarcal, until November 10th, Ceramica, l'evidència material, a collection of pieces from the MCCB’s archive.
At El Be Negre Ceràmica gallery, during the festival, Rastres by Montse Aiguadé will be on display, in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the gallery.
At Ester Ramon Escultora gallery, until November 30th, Camina trepitjant terra will be exhibited, where the Montblanc artist reflects on the destruction of nature and the need to respect the earth by traveling on foot.
At the Sala de les Corts Catalanes, Creative Process of a Nativity Figure from the Museu del Pessebre de Catalunya will be exhibited. Once again, the museum is in charge of the nativity figure creation workshop using molds, open to all audiences and taking place in the same hall.
The cloister of Sant Francesc will host workshops and demonstrations, with the addition of a canopy to comfortably enjoy these activities. The workshops, coordinated by Pardal Creatiu, include calado and sgraffito techniques, the creation of a castle (for children), and pottery wheel sessions. Ceramist Montse Llanas will lead two workshops: rakú and rakú using a microwave.
Additionally, several demonstrations will be offered by Anna Maria Redón, Soberado Atelier, and Lluís Soler.
The program can be consulted on the festival’s website at www.terrania.cat.
