The Castlà fortress-palace
16/06/2017
Construction:
15th century
Characteristics:
This big building has a cubic form, with round angles for a better defence. It has an interior courtyard with arcades, a garden and a kitchen garden which arrived as far as the city wall, where a private porch was opened. When the façade was restored in the 20th century, some Renaissance windows appeared and they seem to have a great artistic value. Nowadays one of the sides has buildings attached to it.
History:
It was constructed after the Civil Catalan War and was the seat of the king’s military representative. During other wars the lower part of the building was turned into a prison and this left the structure in a bad condition. Nowadays it is a private property.
Visit:
It cannot be visited.
