Gateway of Sant Jordi
Construction
14th century.
Architectural features
Located in the section known as the Sant Jordi wall, it is one of the best-preserved gateways, with three floors and a spiked gate.
History
This tower-gateway faced west and gave access to the Prades mountains. A commemorative mosaic says that, according to legend, it was here that Sant Jordi (Saint George) killed the dragon. Following this old tradition, every year Montblanc, coinciding with Sant Jordi (23rd April), relives the medieval times and the legend of Sant Jordi.
